The Hydro Test Operator is responsible for inspecting, stamping and performing hydrostatic pressure testing on refrigerant cylinders to ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards. This role supports the Hydro Test department by preparing cylinders for testing, operating hydrostatic testing equipment, recording inspection results, and ensuring cylinders meet all safety and quality requirements before being returned to service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform hydrostatic pressure testing of refrigerant cylinders in accordance with DOT regulations and company procedures.
• Inspect cylinders for damage, corrosion, structural defects, and leaks prior to testing.
• Prepare cylinders for testing by cleaning cylinders, and staging them for processing.
• Operate hydrostatic testing equipment, pressure gauges, pumps, and other testing machinery safely and accurately.
• Monitor and record pressure readings to verify cylinder integrity and compliance.
• Identify and remove cylinders that fail inspection or hydrostatic testing.
• Stamp or mark cylinders after successful testing according to regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accurate testing logs, inspection documentation, and compliance records.
• Ensure all operations follow OSHA, DOT, and company safety procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area within the Hydro Test department.
• Communicate equipment issues, safety concerns, or damaged cylinders to supervisors immediately.
• Assist with moving, loading, and staging cylinders for processing or storage.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to follow written procedures and safety protocols.
• Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with industrial tools or testing equipment.
• Ability to read pressure gauges and inspection documentation accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a production environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, move, and position cylinders weighing up to 50–75 pounds.
• Ability to stand, bend, and work for extended periods in a production environment.
• Ability to push, pull, and maneuver cylinders during refurbishing and testing operations.

Work Environment

• Industrial warehouse and cylinder refurbishing environment.
• Exposure to pressurized cylinders and mechanical equipment.
• Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots.

Safety Responsibilities

• Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Wear required PPE in all designated areas.
• Report unsafe conditions, damaged cylinders, or equipment issues immediately.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA and DOT cylinder testing regulations.
