About the job Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large‑scale, massively distributed, fault‑tolerant systems. SRE ensures that Google Cloud’s services—both internally critical and externally‑visible—have reliability, uptime appropriate to customer needs, and a fast rate of improvement. SRE also keeps an ever‑watchful eye on system capacity and performance. Much of our software development focuses on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure and eliminating work through automation. On the SRE team, you’ll have the opportunity to manage the complex challenges of scale unique to Google Cloud, while using your expertise in coding, algorithms, complexity analysis and large‑scale system design. SRE’s culture of intellectual curiosity, problem solving and openness is key to its success. Android’s core functionality and user experience are deeply intertwined with Google Play, the primary engine for app discovery, distribution, updates, and business generation. Reliability failures in either platform, or at their crucial interface, can prevent users from installing or updating apps, block business streams for developers and Google, compromise device security through missed updates, and severely erode user trust. Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google’s product portfolio possible. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible. US: $262,000 – $365,000 (USD) + 25% bonus target + equity + benefits. Responsibilities Manage and grow the multi‑site Play and Android SRE organization, driving a culture of excellence and long‑term goal. Hire, coach, and mentor SRE Managers and executive individual contributors (Staff+), ensuring robust career development and team growth. Partner with developer leads to align SRE strategy with product goals, advocating prioritization to focus resources on critical initiatives. Conceive and execute complex, high‑impact programs that require cross‑functional collaboration across Google. Implement scalable processes to deliver technical guidance, maintain top reliability, and enable managers to present data‑driven business reviews.
