The Public Building Authority (PBA) is a joint public, non-profit organization created by Knox County and the City of Knoxville to develop, construct, manage, and maintain a wide range of public facilities and services on their behalf. PBA oversees major construction projects, provides long-term property and grounds management for millions of square feet of buildings—including city and county facilities, parks, and parking garages—and even handles security, telecommunications infrastructure and on-street parking operations throughout the community. Governed by an 11-member board appointed by county and city leaders, the PBA works to deliver cost-effective, professional facility services that support local government operations and enhance public spaces for residents and visitors alike.

This position is located in Knoxville, TN and is not available for remote work.

Due to continued growth, PBA is seeking an experienced Sr. Accountant to join our Finance team. This position reports to the Manager of Accounting and plays a key role in applying principles of accounting to reconcile accounts to the general ledger, prepare account analyses, and assists with preparation of financial statements and work papers for external audit.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reconciles monthly balance sheet accounts, including AP, AR, and all bank statements.
  • Prepares and records/posts monthly journal entries and adjusting journal entries as assigned.
  • Prepares and records daily deposits and assists with other cash management activities, as

assigned.

  • Assists with financial statement preparation, as assigned.
  • Reconciles select expense accounts to the general ledger.
  • Assists in responding to external auditor’s requests for information, as assigned.
  • Assists in maintaining financial records of the PBA.
  • Prepares and analyzes monthly department reports and assists with the analysis of other financial information.

 

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited four-year college or university and five years related experience in a position with similar duties and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) year of project or cost accounting experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficient in Windows-based systems, Microsoft Office (especially Excel, Word, and Outlook) and financial accounting software (e.g., Great Plains).
