Psychiatric Physician Assistant (PA)

The Psychiatric Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive outpatient psychiatric and behavioral health services to patients from birth through age 21. This position is responsible for psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, ADHD evaluation and treatment, controlled substance prescribing, brief therapeutic interventions, and collaboration with pediatric providers and behavioral health professionals.

The provider serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary care team and supports Anderson Hills Pediatrics' integrated behavioral health model.

The Psychiatric Physician Assistant (PA) performs comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments. Diagnoses and manages psychiatric, behavioral, developmental, and emotional disorders in pediatric and adolescent patients. Develops individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practices. Prescribes, monitors, and manages psychiatric medications, including Schedule II controlled substances, in accordance with federal and Ohio regulations. Evaluates and manages ADHD, including stimulant medication therapy and ongoing monitoring. Delivers brief therapeutic interventions, psychoeducation, and supportive counseling as clinically appropriate. Collaborates with pediatricians, behavioral health therapists, families, schools, specialists, and community resources. Coordinates care for patients with complex medical and behavioral health needs. Participates in interdisciplinary case review and care planning activities. Maintains complete, accurate, and timely electronic health record documentation. Reviews laboratory results, screening tools, and diagnostic information relevant to psychiatric treatment. Participates in quality improvement initiatives and clinical program development. Maintains compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, DEA, Ohio licensure requirements, and organizational policies. Performs other duties as assigned to support patient care and departmental operations.

Principal working relationships include Managing Physician Partner, Chief Medical Officer, Physician Partners, Pediatricians and Advanced Practice Providers, Behavioral Health Therapists, Nursing Staff, Clinical Support Staff, Practice Leadership Team, Patients and Families, Community Behavioral Health Providers, Schools and Community Agencies, Collaborating and/or Supervising Psychiatric Physician, as applicable.

Qualifications include current, unrestricted Ohio Physician Assistant license with NCCPA certification. Current DEA registration and eligibility to prescribe controlled substances in Ohio. Minimum five (5) years of psychiatric clinical experience. Demonstrated experience treating pediatric and adolescent patients. Experience diagnosing and managing ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and other common pediatric behavioral health conditions. Knowledge of federal and state prescribing regulations. Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, integrated care model. Current BLS certification or ability to obtain upon hire.

Ability to educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and medications. Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple patient needs simultaneously. Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical documentation systems. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound clinical judgment. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Commitment to evidence-based care and continuous professional development.

Working conditions include a clinical outpatient pediatric practice environment. Hybrid work opportunities may be available, including telehealth services. Frequent interaction with patients, families, physicians, therapists, and staff. Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and computer use. Exposure to communicable illnesses common in healthcare settings. Requires compliance with infection prevention and safety protocols.
