Job Description

Pharmacy Technician

Maintains records of all transactions of the pharmacy necessary to ensure accurate control over and accountability for all drugs as required by applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations; ensures legal operation of the pharmacy, including meeting all inspection and other requirements of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing pharmacy operations.

Fills prescriptions for pharmaceutical preparations, maintains accurate and detailed records of all prescription transactions, consults with veterinarians regarding pharmaceutical questions; advises veterinarians on formulary medications and cost-effective therapies; answers pharmaceutical questions from animal owners; monitor storage, distribution, and use of pharmaceuticals.

Provide functional supervision to professional, paraprofessional, and support staff in their respective pharmacy, including training, assigning duties, and providing input for performance evaluations.

Assisting in the formulation and execution of new compounds, and other duties as assigned.

Using NexGen's computerized compounding system, weigh and record the chemicals included in the formula and then combine the chemicals into the appropriate dosage form as requested by the prescription.

Receive and process customer orders. Including order entry into the pharmacy computer system.

Prepares compounded sterile preparations using aseptic technique and NexGen Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Assures pharmacy compliance with rules and regulations of the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy and other regulatory agencies.

Reviews orders and prescriptions for mixing and dispensing. Resolves order discrepancies and problems with customer pharmacy personnel.

Supervises pharmacy technicians and interns, reviewing their work for accuracy while ensuring compliance with NexGen Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Provides employee performance feedback to during review periods

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to operate NexGen automation equipment. Including calibration and proper documentation of scales, electronic meters, etc.

Ability to work well with other NexGen employees and the management team.

Knowledge of cleanroom functions, aseptic technique, relevant cGMP's, USP (797), and other applicable USP chapters.

Ability to interface with customers and apply good phone etiquette skills when speaking to customers. Including answering questions and provide consultation, when necessary, to customers.

Ability to perform quality control functions as assigned.

Knowledge of company policies and procedures and the ability to monitor for compliance.

Computer literate in Windows environment and computer systems.

Ability to operate various types of office equipment.

BS or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree

Current TX license

Minimum of 5 years of experience in compounding

Strong management experience required

Chemistry background or advanced compounding training

Willingness to acquire additional state licenses as requested by management (Must be completed within one-year of hire date)

Compounding and/or laboratory experience strongly preferred but not required

Strong math skills are essential

Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Must exhibit excellent customer service skills

Must exhibit excellent problem resolution skills

Must be capable of wearing all protective wear as required by State Board of Pharmacy. This includes, but not limited to? mask, gloves, gown, hair net, safety goggles, etc.

Must have knowledge of basic principles, theories, and laws, policies, and procedures that pertain to compounding

Exhibit punctuality and low absenteeism

Pharmacists will work in a variety of positions and locations such as sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and walking for prolonged periods of time

Exposure to chemicals used in the preparation of compounds (some chemicals are classified as toxic and special safety precautions must be taken when working with these chemicals)

Must be able to use necessary equipment such as computers, scanners, phone/headset, or other technology devices as assigned

Must be able to wear required compounding safety equipment for long periods of time when required
