Oil Spill Response Technician
With guidance and supervision from the foreman, the Operator will learn to perform specific duties as assigned.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Handle lines on arrival and departure of vessels ranging from small boats to ocean-going tankers.
- Load stores, supplies, and equipment on board SERVS vessels.
- Off load trash, dunnage, returned equipment, etc. From SERVS vessels.
- Inventory, inspect for damage, perform routine repairs to and maintain oil spill containment and clean up equipment on board SERVS vessels and/or staged on shore.
- Utilize snow shovels and/or operate a variety of equipment to remove snow from barges, docks, buildings, and land areas.
- Load and/or unload fuel and other petroleum products on SERVS vessels, observing SERVS and Alyeska Safety Rules and Procedures, US Coast Guard Tankerman procedures and regulations for a safe working procedure in transferring fuels/petroleum products.
- Operate, maintain, & repair equipment as required such as, but not limited to: boom trucks, cranes, forklifts, loaders, snow blowers, pumps, power packs, and other industrial equipment, but only after being checked off by shift foreman as to competency in operating that specific type of equipment.
- Operate work boats, perform maintenance, and routine repairs as required on these vessels and their propulsion machinery and accessory equipment, but only after being checked off by shift foreman as competency in operating or maintaining that specific type of marine equipment.
- Complete all required safety training, HAZWOPER/HAZMAT training, First Aid training, and training in utilization, maintenance, and deployment of oil spill containing and clean up equipment.
- Handle hazardous wastes, cleaning agents, dispersant agents contaminated absorbent materials, but only after completion of HAZWOPER training and only when monitored by the shift foreman as to competency in dealing with the specific type of material or waste product.
- Learn, understand, observe, and comply with all SERVS, Alyeska, and US Coast Guard safety rules and regulations.
Accountable for:
- Completion of Daily Activity sheets, work orders as assigned, and a completed daily time sheet for payroll.
- Performing all duties assigned to me in a timely and cost effective manner.
- Maintaining an effective and professional working relationship with everyone on my shift and within the project as a whole.
Authority Line and Limitations of Authority:
- As defined by the Project Manager.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Minimum of one year experience in the operation and/or maintenance of work boats, fishing boats, or barges.
- Minimum of two years experience in operation and/or maintenance of mechanical equipment such as trucks, forklifts, front end loaders, dozers, pumps, snow blowers, or similar industrial equipment (Formal training courses in above subjects will be considered by management for partial fulfillment of the experience requirements).
- High school graduation of GED equivalency, or demonstrated proficiency in understanding and interpreting written rules, regulations, instructions, training course materials, and similar documents.
- Minimum two years experience maintenance and/or repair of mechanical systems to include operation and maintenance of internal combustion engines, pumps, hydraulic power packs, work boats, and their propulsion machinery, and heavy industrial equipment such as boom truck, cranes, forklifts, loaders and other similar equipment used in the SERVS operations.
- Must be capable of responding accurately and quickly to both written and oral instructions from Shift Foreman.
- Must be willing to work as a part of a team, all striving to achieve SERVS operational objectives under the direction and supervision of the Shift Foreman.
- Must be a competent and safe operator of work boats and must exhibit a clear understanding of marine safety practices on and around work boats and barge.
- Completion of formal and/or factory training courses involving the maintenance, repair and theory, of diesel engines, hydraulics, power plants, or heavy equipment.
