Job Title: EDM Operator

Job Description

The EDM Operator sets up, programs, and operates EDM equipment to manufacture precision tooling and components to print. This role requires strong blueprint reading skills, a solid understanding of GD&T, and the ability to work independently while holding tight tolerances in a tool room or fabrication shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up, program, and operate EDM machines to manufacture precision tooling and components according to specifications.
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T to ensure dimensional accuracy and required surface finishes.
• Create, modify, and optimize EDM programs using CAD/CAM software or machine-based (conversational) programming.
• Select appropriate wire, offsets, skim passes, taper controls, and flushing parameters for each job.
• Inspect parts using precision measuring equipment and maintain accurate documentation of measurements and results.
• Troubleshoot issues such as wire breaks, taper errors, flushing problems, and surface finish concerns to maintain quality and productivity.
• Perform routine EDM machine maintenance, including changing wire, filters, and resin, and monitoring conductivity.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the tool room or fabrication shop.
• Follow all company safety rules, quality standards, and operational policies.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, quality personnel, and tool room team members to coordinate work and resolve issues.

Essential Skills

• 2+ years of EDM experience in a manufacturing or tool room environment preferred.
• Proficiency in setting up, programming, and operating EDM machines to produce precision components.
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints, including the application of GD&T.
• Experience with EDM programming using CAD/CAM software or conversational programming at the machine.
• Hands-on experience with CNC and milling operations in a precision machining environment.
• Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers to verify part dimensions.
• Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting skills for EDM machining issues.
• High attention to detail and ability to maintain tight tolerances.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks.
• High school diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with machining and EDM of tool steels, stainless steel, aluminum, and carbide.
• Experience operating EDM equipment from manufacturers such as Makino, Mitsubishi, Sodick, Fanuc, or similar.
• Experience in a tool room or fabrication shop environment.
• Experience optimizing EDM parameters for surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with quality and tool room teams.
• Commitment to maintaining accurate documentation and following established quality procedures.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $49920.00 - $66560.00/yr.
