Job Title: EDM Programmer/Operator – 1st Shift
Job Description

This role focuses on programming and operating wire EDM machines to produce precision metal parts in a short- to medium-run job shop stamping and fabrication environment. You will create EDM programs from CAD models and blueprints, support tooling design, assist mill operators, and help continuously improve cutting methods and tooling utilization across the shop.

Responsibilities

  • Program and operate wire EDM machines to produce precision parts in a short- to medium-run metal stamping and fabrication job shop.
  • Create EDM programs from supplied CAD models or blueprints using Striker programming software.
  • Set up and run EDM jobs on in-house equipment, including Makino and Fanuc machines.
  • Use basic and precision inspection tools to verify that parts meet print specifications and quality standards.
  • Assist mill operators in the performance of their duties to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality output.
  • Contribute to the design and development of short-run tooling for metal stamping and fabrication projects.
  • Research new cutting tools and machining methods to increase EDM utilization, improve efficiency, and enhance part quality.
  • Collaborate with drafting and design functions to support metal part design using CAD programs such as Striker, SolidWorks, Unigraphics, ProE, and AutoCAD.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in alignment with the company’s standards and job shop practices.
  • Follow established safety procedures and equipment operating guidelines while working with EDM and mill machinery.
Essential Skills
  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience operating and programming Makino and Fanuc EDM machines.
  • Experience with wire EDM machining in a metal stamping and fabrication environment.
  • Ability to program EDM machines using Striker or similar CNC programming software.
  • Practical knowledge of mill machining processes and workflows.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and CAD models for metal parts.
  • Skill in using precision measuring and basic inspection tools to verify part dimensions and tolerances.
  • Understanding of CNC programming concepts and techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing parts to exact print specifications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • EDM machining or general machining experience in a job shop or metal stamping/fabrication setting.
  • Experience with drafting and design work for metal parts using Striker, SolidWorks, Unigraphics, ProE, and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to assist in tooling design for short-run production.
  • Comfort working with multiple machine types and adapting to different setups and part requirements.
  • Willingness to research and implement new cutting tools and methods to improve utilization and productivity.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills when working with mill operators and other team members.

Work Environment

The position is on 1st shift, working Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with voluntary overtime available. The shop emphasizes a professional atmosphere and organized work areas to support precision machining and comfortable day-to-day operations.
